This thermostat is designed for a system with five wires — the wire terminations are marked as follows: W – This wire comes from the relay that turns on the heating system. Y – This wire comes from the relay that turns on the cooling system. G – This wire comes from the relay that turns on the fan. The two transformers provide the power the thermostat uses to switch on the various relays. The relays in turn switch on the power to the fan and the air conditioner or furnace. Let’s see how this power flows through the thermostat when the air conditioner is running.
My thermostat gauge in the car is going up and down, what could be the problem
But the reality is: Just think about it: Wiring that is at best, complicated, and at worst, dangerous.
Thermostat provides line voltage control of a radiant cable, electric baseboard and resistive- The heater should start to warm up within two minutes. If not, contact a qualified electrician to check the thermostat and heater. CTA,B LINE VOLTAGE ELECTRIC HEAT THERMOSTATS EFŠ1 4.
Work with the power off whenever possible. When a furnace does not work it may be caused by problems with the furnace or the thermostat. Before troubleshooting your thermostat, check to see if all filters are clean and all hoses to and from the units themselves are free of wear. If these are not causing problems, then it is time to look at specific thermostat issues and possible solutions. Your thermostat could have aging wiring that is faulty or the transformer may require replacing.
A thermostat may need cleaning to eliminate erratic operation. Accumulated dust is a common culprit. First, you should have a small paintbrush, a screwdriver, and a voltmeter. The anticipator is a small metal tab positioned in front of an arcing printed scale. Give it a light push in both directions. This easy step may solve the problem. Give the thermostat’s interior a light dusting with a small, soft paintbrush.
How Home Thermostats Work
Temperature gauge goes up and down from 90 to , completely randomly sometimes it doesn’t happen and sometimes it does, no difference if i drive , or stand at a traffic light , or drive smooth or hit the road hard. My car is an aud s6 model 5. Than problem occured after i had a blown gasket due to a malfunction of my thermostat couple of month ago.
Gasket has been replaced at that time but after hundred km without any issue , i am facing this constant problem of the temperature gauge going crazy and for whatever reason it comes from 90 steady up to in about 30 to 40 seconds and then it comes back down while im still driving, and then all the cycle again , up and down up and down , sometimes more than and soemtimes less.
The engine is not over hitting , coolant is not boiling ,cooling system pipes are not hard and can be pressed bare hands.

You might need a small flat head screwdriver, depending on how your old thermostat is connected. This might also be the perfect time for me to inform you that by doing this project yourself, you assume all risks associated with it. Different wires from the thermostat control the different functions heat, cool, fan of your HVAC. The most common wires are: This switches on the gas, oil, or electric heat. That makes things easy, but that might not be the case with your thermostat.
Double check to make sure everything is labelled correctly before disconnecting any wires. The wires coming out of the wall should look something like this: Do you have four thermostat wires or five? Notice in the above picture that I have five wires available: Notice that this example has six wires connected: If yours looks like this, label them and skip to Step 5.
How to Install an Electric Baseboard Heater Thermostat
I mounted the high voltage controller close to the cooler and used 4 conductor low voltage t-stat wire to connect the thermostat which made it a really simple installation. The pad pre-soak timer worked well and the controller automatically switched the blower motor from high to low when the temperature got close to the set point I think it was one degree I did not use the automatic purge contact yet but I plan to.
The unit worked much better than expected and is much more accurate than the old bi-metal line voltage stat. This is a simple and inexpensive option for modernizing your evaporative cooler controls. I installed it in a rental and will be installing one in my home. Techs either, since one has to crawl in the attic to run new hook up wires to unit in a new installation or new location; plus wires to Cooler if the extra feature for discharge pump is used.
Line voltage thermostats control electrical power to heating and cooling devices. The two basic types of line voltage thermostats are single-pole and double-pole units. Single-pole thermostats control volt electrical power. A double-pole thermostat can control either volts or volts.
Super Thermostat I have two heat pumps to heat and cool my house. The house layout is such that there is no path from one part of the house to another for a big old air duct and two of them offer redundancy in case of failure. I have really nice programmable thermostats on the systems that can shut them off during the peak period but there are still a few things that would be nice to have.
Ability for each of them to know when the other one is on to prevent both of them from coming on at the same time, or restrict each thermostat to a specific period of time so they don’t overlap each other. Be able to adjust both of them from the same spot so you don’t have to run back and forth. Be able to tell if either of them are on and what they are doing when wondering what is eating up the power. Keep visitors from playing with the temperature when they think they’re getting too hot or cold.
Sounds like a job for a couple of Web enabled thermostats doesn’t it? Enter another Arduino, this time a thermostat. This collection of strange things wired together are the components of the thermostat. Upper left is the Arduino stack with the Arduino topped by an ethernet shield and a prototype board holding a power supply and control relays. Lower left is the button keyboard.
How to Install an Energy-Saving Programmable Thermostat
Power capacity looks fine too. But do double-check that voltage spec carefully! If it were me I would trust but verify – get out a multimeter and check the voltage on the red lead coming out of your wall box, then double-check that the new thermostat specifically says that voltage is ok. I also have a clamp ammeter that can check AC current, and I use that to verify the power level flowing through the thermostat leads.
In the past I have discovered that a newly-installed electronic baseboard thermostat that looked a little melted was rated for 12 amps max and the baseboard heaters were drawing 20 amps!

This is the second transformer. What could be the problem? I have encountered this problem several times. In most cases the thermostat wires have shorted out somewhere and the thermostat wires are the problem. I had a shorted out reversing valve coil cause this problem one time. Most of the time it is in the thermostat wiring. In order to find the problem I would turn off all the power, take all the low voltage thermostat wires loose from the thermostat, air handler, and outdoor unit.
I would take a digital meter set to ohms and check between all the wires with the meter. You should not get a reading between any two wires if the wires are in good shape. If the wires are good you would need to test the components from each wire or terminal to ground. The meter should not move. This is a pain sometimes finding the problem. The vibration of the furnace or air handler over time had torn through the wire insulation and caused a short.
Sometimes animals will chew through the wires and cause a short.

I really appreciate your info and it gives me a lot of ideas. One problem with any manual thermostat solution that’s not automatic is this: I could trivially put another switch breaking the thermostat line on the wall near the door, but it’s not exactly what I need. The scenario that I’m trying to avoid is that my wife has a garage control on her key-chain and has accidentally hit it a couple of times in her pocket or purse.
Hi, I’m trying to hook up a line voltage thermostat. The wall box has six wires coming out of it, 3 white, 3 black. Two of the white and black wires are twisted together, so it looks more like 4 wires total.
These thermostats, whichever type of thermostat or thermostats you have, require little maintenance. Often, I find that the only thing people know about their AC and Heating systems is how to turn the thermostat on and off. And change the temperature setting. The purpose of this site is to help people go beyond the thermostat. To learn more about their system as a whole.
And not just a dial on the wall that adjusts the temperature when they are not comfortable.
Using a small amount of compressed air as their power source, Super Air Amplifiers pull in large volumes of surrounding air to produce high volume, high velocity outlet flows through a fixed air gap. Quiet, efficient Air Amplifiers will create output flows up to 25 times their consumption rate. Both the vacuum and discharge ends of the Air Amplifier can be ducted, making them ideal for drawing fresh air from another location, or moving smoke and fumes away.
Also effective to cool, clean and dry parts or processes. Force and flow for the Adjustable Air Amplifier is changed by turning the exhaust end with the knurled ring loose to open or close the continuous air gap.
By turning the thermostat to the side, you can see where the screws line up with the electrical box. If you have to force the thermostat even to get the screws to touch the box, the wires aren’t correctly folded in. Try pulling out the green, white, and red wires and folding them back into the box.
Above all, Honeywell tech support team is generally easy to reach. Cons The size is an issue for a few people. It is quite bigger compared to other thermostats of similar efficiency. The device is not very durable. The device operates quietly without any kind of irritating clicking noise. This Honeywell model is compatible with electric baseboards of volt, convectors and radiant ceilings.
The thermostat sports an LCD display and an on-screen heating command indicator. You would like the way this thermostat adjusts power usage by not passing over the full power to the heater. Besides, it has five vertical bars that indicate the following: Also, the gadget is very much energy efficient.
